Trace element remobilization at the Ok Tedi porphyry Cu-Au deposit, Papua New Guinea

چکیده
The Ok Tedi Complex hosts a world-class porphyry copper-gold deposit. Samples from the Ok Tedi Complex and the neighbouring Mount Ian Complex were analyzed for major and trace elements using XRF and HR-ICP-MS, and the isotopic composition of S in sulphides was analyzed by Elemental Analyzer. Major element geochemistry indicates that both complexes are alkaline and contain rocks ranging in composition from picrobasalts to trachytes. Trace element signatures suggest both complexes have a common parental magma. REE values are significantly lower for felsic, mineralized rocks than for both unmineralized equivalents and more mafic rocks in general. This suggests that original magmatic signatures have been lost due to intense alteration, which is complicating the unraveling of the magmatic history. Destruction of monazite, xenotime and possibly apatite were the main cause of REE modification of the mineralized rocks at Ok Tedi.

Application of fractal modeling to delineate alteration zones and lithological units in Masjed-Daghi Cu-Au porphyry deposit, NW Iran
In this paper, we aim to present a quantitative modeling for delineating the alteration zones and lithological units in the hypogene zone of Masjed-Daghi Cu-Au porphyry deposit (NW Iran) based on the drill core data. The main goal of this work is to apply Ordinary Kriging (OK) and concentration-volume (C-V) fractal model based on Cu grades in order to separate the different alteration zones and...
متن کاملNew evidence of magmatic-fluid–related phyllic alteration: Implications for the genesis of porphyry Cu deposits
The phyllic alteration in a number of circum-Pacific porphyry Cu-Au deposits is related to high-temperature saline magmatic fluids. This contradicts the widely used genetic models wherein phyllic alteration formed as the result of mixing between magmatic and meteoric fluids. At the Endeavour 26 North porphyry deposit in eastern Australia, the transition from early potassic to the main-stage phy...
متن کاملPrediction of mineral deposit model and identification of mineralization trend in depth using frequency domain of surface geochemical data in Dalli Cu-Au porphyry deposit
In this research work, the frequency domain (FD) of surface geochemical data was analyzed to decompose the complex geochemical patterns related to different depths of the mineral deposit. In order to predict the variation in mineralization in the depth and identify the deep geochemical anomalies and blind mineralization using the surface geochemical data for the Dalli Cu-Au porphyry deposit, a ...

Resources/reserves classification is crucial for block model creation utilised in mine planning and feasibility study. Selection of estimation methods is an essential part of mineral exploration and mining activities. In other word, resources classification is an issue for mining companies, investors, financial institutions and authorities, but it remains subject to some confusion. The aim of t...
